Burn Victim Turia Pitt Poses For Magazine Cover To Prove That ‘Confidence Equals Beauty’

When burn victim Turia Pitt was offered to pose for the front cover of Australia’s Women’s Weekly, she decided to make the opportunity into an inspirational example of what true beauty really means.

In a related report by The Inquisitr, when a plastic surgery hoax caused a woman to have both her hands and feet amputated, she changed her mantra from “when I get me some money, I am going to get me some butt” to “we are enough and we were made to be enough.”

Back in September of 2011, Pitt suffered horrific burns to more than 60 percent of her body when a brush fire occurred while she was running a 100 kilometer marathon race organized by Racing The Planet. She struggled for 864 days in the hospital and underwent 100 surgeries. The Western Australia government determined the racing organization did not take reasonable steps to ensure the safety of the runners, and both Pitt and Kate Sanderson, who was also severely burnt, received $450,000.

Racing The Planet denies they were at fault but settled out of court. Pitt’s lawyer, Greg Walsh, said:

“Turia has shown enormous courage and dignity and I’m very relieved and happy for her and [her boyfriend] Michael [Hoskin] that this matter has now come to an end. She will be left with horrific injuries for the rest of her life but at least she won’t have to put up with the stress and worry of a protracted court case.”

Although it’s said that Pitt has had to wear a compression suit covering her face and body, and she lost all her fingers on her right hand, the former marathon runner is not giving up the race when it comes to her life. Now she has taken on the mission to prove that “beauty comes in many vessels,” and she hopes her appearance on the front page without makeup will have an impact on women everywhere:

“Being on the cover of the Australian Women’s Weekly is a huge honor. I feel very humbled. For me, it sends the message that confidence equals beauty. There are a lot of women out there who are so beautiful but don’t have the confidence, and that’s what gets you over the line.”

Australia’s Women’s Weekly Editor-in-Chief Helen McCabe also heaped praises on Pitt for daring to show herself uncovered to the world:

“When Turia was photographed as part of our Women of the Future judging panel among a group of similarly impressive Australian women, it was clear from the moment she sat in front of the camera that the July cover had to belong to her. Any attempt to describe the magic and beauty of Turia seems to get lost in platitudes or clichés. Yet I have never met a more remarkable person.”
