Chris Colfer Fired From ‘Glee’ Over ‘Personal Issues’ [Updated]

UPDATED 2:25 PM EST: Chris Colfer recently announced he’s leaving Glee, but apparently that’s not the case at all. A representative from Glee told Entertainment Weekly that Colfer’s Twitter account has been hacked and that fans shouldn’t believe the tweet.

There’s a storm brewing on the set of Glee. Actor Chris Colfer, who has played openly gay Kurt Hummel since season one, just announced on his Twitter that he was fired from the Fox hit show. Instead of going the nice press release route, Colfer decided to take the story into his own hands and announced on Twitter that his firing had to do with personal issues. This announcement comes as a huge surprise given how much Colfer’s storyline was featured on the show.

Early on Glee creator Ryan Murphy went on record in saying that he resonated personally with Kurt’s struggle of being the only openly gay teen in the fictional town of Lima, Ohio. At one point there were rumors that Colfer and Lea Michele were going to get their own spin-off show. This was right before Murphy decided to reboot the show by bringing in new high school students and move most of the original cast members to New York.

Although Chris Colfer hasn’t gone into much detail about what those personal issues were, he promised that details will follow. Meanwhile, Glee fans are simply losing their minds over this latest gossip to come out of the show.

As some of you know, cast mate Naya Rivera has been experiencing problems on the set of Glee. Despite Murphy saying the actress wasn’t let go from the show, she was nowhere to be seen during the show’s season finale.

While Naya was rumored to have a feud with star Lea Michele, there was no indication that Colfer was having a difficult time on the show. If anything his role in Glee has grown throughout the years. This season the actor even penned an episode last season, and it was well received by fans.

This puts a huge wrench in a storyline that ate up a lot of screen time on the show. Kurt Hummel and his fiance Blaine Anderson were gearing up for a wedding and currently making a new life for themselves in New York. Colfer’s sudden departure from the show probably puts the writing staff in a difficult position. It will be interesting to see how the writers will resolve this issue, or if the show will even go on after such a large departure.

It’s suspected that Glee’s final season will only have thirteen episodes with a 2015 air date. Glee will start shooting their final season with Chris Colfer at some point this month.
