It’s Official: New Research Proves Your Boss Probably Is A Narcissist

Bosses! where would we be without them? Free to carry on with our work without being subject to the power-crazed mind-games of a bona fide megalomanic perhaps?

Only joking, there are good bosses who you can enjoy a round of golf with, but then again retirement does tend to mellow a fellow somewhat. Most bosses on top of their game in this cut-throat world of capitalism and commerce are a particularly hard act to swallow.

Like any strutting cock who rules the roost, bosses are often considered a narcissistic breed, but groundbreaking new research indicates that there’s a very good reason for that.

The complete lack of social skills and woeful absence of any signs of finesse, decorum, empathy, respect, or even consideration for their fellow man that bosses seem to best exemplify is probably something to do with their narcissistic personality disorder, according to scientists.

So if your boss is ruthless, selfish, vain, and likes to boss big and bad with a capital ‘B’, then they’re probably suffering from a birth defect. Or in other words, they’re a nasty narcissist dude.

New research suggests that the top job in any industry are top heavy with tribes of over-confident megalomaniacs acutely suffering from narcissistic personality disorder.

These narcissists may not think twice about making the tough decisions but their self-serving nature doesn’t necessarily make them the sort of great leaders of men who inspire a fierce loyalty and admiring devotion.

That’s because these narcissists are prepared to sacrifice all and everything in the name of self-interest and naturally gravitate to positions which can feed their hunger for power and status.

The Daily Mail reported that Researcher Christian Gimso, from the BI Norwegian Business School, studied 3,200 people applying for leadership training at Norwegian armed forces officer schools.

The candidates who were interviewed were also subject to a personality trait which measured narcissistic traits.

Those who coasted through the interviews also ticked all the boxes when it came to being a narcissist. And we all know what happens to people who perform superbly in interviews – they get the job!

Mr Gismo explained:

“Leaders who score high on narcissistic traits lack the ability to relate to others.
They run their own agenda with no thought for the people around them. This can mean poor leadership performance.
“People with narcissistic personality disorders will be interested in dominance, status, recognition, power and admiration, They may not think twice about using others to achieve their goals.”

Mr Gismo added:

“The study indicates that candidates with a high degree of narcissistic traits do better in the admission interview than candidates with a lower degree of narcissism. They are also more likely to be admitted.”
