Ryan Gosling And Rachel McAdams Hated Each Other On ‘The Notebook’ Set, Director Says

Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams in The Notebook are one of those iconic couples that most women (and some men) swoon over, however, all was not as it appeared. According to a recent revelation from director Nick Cassavetes, the starring duo hated each other when filming began.

The Notebook, based on the Nicholas Sparks novel, is one of those films people watch over and over again. Both, men and women, are attracted to the very good looking Ryan and Rachel, so it may come as a surprise to know that they really despised each other at some point during filming.

That’s some really good acting skills, right?

Even though everyone’s favorite leading man Gosling and McAdams became a real life couple following the filming of The Notebook, sparks of a different kind were flying on set and the film, as we know it, almost didn’t happen. Cassavetes reluctantly shares the behind-the-scenes crushing truth:

“Maybe I’m not supposed to tell this story, but they were really not getting along one day on set. Really not, and Ryan came to me, and there’s 150 people standing in this big scene, and he says, ‘Nick come here.”‘And he’s doing a scene with Rachel and he says, ‘Would you take her out of here and bring in another actress to read off camera with me?’

“I said, ‘What?'”

“He says, ‘I can’t. I can’t do it with her. I’m just not getting anything from this.'”

It didn’t look good, but Cassavetes, kept calm and asked The Notebook stars, Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams, to talk and patch up their differences so they could move on with the production. The director and one of the producers went into a room and closed the door:

“…they started screaming and yelling at each other. I walked out. At that point I was smoking cigarettes. I smoked a cigarette and everybody came out like, ‘All right let’s do this.'”

“And it got better after that, you know? They had it out… I think Ryan respected her for standing up for her character and Rachel was happy to get that out in the open. The rest of the film wasn’t smooth sailing, but it was smoother sailing.”

Just crushing. And here, we all were thinking that the chemistry between Gosling and McAfams was one of the best in films, but it was all a deception.

We have to give it to them, it’s a credit to their talent as actors that Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams disliked each other so much, but could work together so intimately and make it look real for movie goers. Knowing what we know now, this interview is very awkward. Take a look:
