Two BET Awards Pre-Show Parties End With Shooting, Stabbing: One Fatally Shot, Five Injured

Two isolated BET Awards pre-show parties have led to two violent incidents. A series of events took place leaving one person fatally shot, and five others injured.

According to ABC News, the fatal shooting and four of the injuries took place at a restaurant early Sunday morning. Officer Drake Madison of the Los Angeles Police Department explained that the incident took place at the Monalizza Restaurant & Banquet Hall. The other four injuries were a result of gunfire, as well. However, it is still unclear whether the shooter was actually in attendance at the party or if shots were fired from outside.

The fifth injury, which took place at a different location, was the result of a stabbing. Officer Madison stated that a man was stabbed in the stomach while attending a pre-show party at the Lure nightclub. There are currently no details about why the incident occurred. The party was said to have been hosted by notable rappers The Game, Meek Mill, Lil’ Boosie, and Let’s Stay Together actress, Kyla Pratt.

TMZ also provided footage of one of the stabbing victims. A man wearing all black can be seen laying on a street curb bleeding while another male dressed in all white can be seen applying pressure to the victim’s stab wound. Sirens can be heard as several police officers also arrived on the scene to investigate the incident.

The BET network has also released a statement in regards to the violent incidents that have occurred. “The two isolated incidents over the weekend occurred at locations with events that were unauthorized and unaffiliated with the BET Awards, BET Experience at L.A. LIVE or their partners,” BET explained in a statement. “The network and all organizers will continue to maintain a safe environment for all planned activities,” the statement said.

The 2014 BET Awards airs live tonight at 8 pm ET.
