‘The View’ Shakeup Has Vaccine Advocates Cheering

In the wake of yesterday’s announcement of an unanticipated The View shakeup, in which the public learned that only a short time after Barbara Walters left the cast, the show would be eliminating several more cast members, retaining only hos Whoopie Goldberg, a cheer went up across the internet. When The View initially announced Jenny McCarthy as a new host, the pro-vax community raised protest, saying that it was a mistake to give a a podium to someone who spreads dangerous false information that flies in the face of science.

Thursday evening, McCarthy tweeted,

It’s doubtful whether this statement is any reference to the unscientific views that have earned McCarthy a level of infamy in parenting circles, but vaccine advocates are celebrating the shakeup, anyway:

In light of The Colombian‘s report this morning on the newest measles outbreak, some even associated McCarthy’s dismissal from The View with negative blowback from that, though the shakeup was surely in the works long before the public knew.

Sherri Shepherd’s part of the shakeup also drew some commentary. Referring to a conversation on The View (see below) in which Shepherd indicated she didn’t know whether the world was flat, many Twitter comments addressed whether her absence from morning television might also lessen the anti-science virus.

While Examiner notes that rumors of McCarthy being fired have made the rounds since her hiring, Jenny’s tweet earlier Thursday suggests she might not have known it was coming:

What’s your take on this The View shakeup? Was it time for hosts who promote anti-science views to be moved out, or do you believe the changes were completely unrelated?
