Watch Adorable Abby, Age 4, Tell How She Foiled Bad Babysitter’s Robbery Plot [Video]

Abby is a 4-year-old from Ferndale, Washington, who not only provided detectives with a crucial clue to crack a home invasion robbery case involving Abby’s teen babysitter, she also provides the cutest eyewitness account you’re likely to hear.

Abby’s evidence not only pointed police toward the real suspects, it got her family’s stolen property back — and rescued an innocent neighbor from a frightening ordeal.

The case involves Abby’s babysitter, who at age 17 is a juvenile so her name has not been released. But the teen girl allegedly conspired with her 16-year-old boyfriend and an 18-year-old accomplice, Ruben Benjamin, to stage a phony home invasion when she was babysitting Abby — and then blame the crime on African-American men, including Abby’s own neighbor Cody Oaks.

But Abby knew that Oaks was not one of the robbers, due to one crucial but obvious fact, and she figured out that her babysitter was lying.

“That was really her being bad,” Abby said. “She’s not a good babysitter.”

That is certainly an understatement on Abby’s part. Not only did the babysitter and her henchmen loot Abby’s home of some valuable belongings, they put the completely innocent neighbor in a frightening situation that, had the babysitter’s story stuck, could have destroyed his whole life — simply because he’s black.

Oaks says that after the bad babysitter told Whatcom County Sheriff’s detectives that the two home invasion robbers were black men, and described one of them as a dead ringer for Oaks, the police went next door and dragged Oaks away in handcuffs.

They then questioned him for several hours at a police station.

But the babysitter’s story did not stick, because when the detectives spoke to 4-year-old Abby, she pointed out one big flaw in the babysitter’s tale.

“It wasn’t the right skin color,” she told them. She knew the real robbers were white, not black.

The thieves, Abby said, made off with her iPod, an XBox, and a Wii — as well as her kitty bank.

But when police confronted the babysitter with the hole in her story, she broke down and sang like a canary. She and her alleged accomplices now face charges of burglary, robbery, and lying to police.

“Literally in 30 seconds, she changed everything that had been going on for five, six hours,” said Abby’s proud mom.

As for the stolen property, it was all recovered. “They got it back because of me being a superhero,” said Abby, whose mom might want to be more careful next time she chooses a babysitter.

But seriously, Abby tells the story far better than we ever could here. Watch the above video of this 4-year-old “superhero” describing her adventure.
