Andrew Wiggins Suit: Floral Pattern Tux Steals The Show At NBA Draft

Andrew Wiggins was selected first in the 2014 NBA draft, but it was his actually his floral-patterned suit that seemed to get most of the attention.

The Canadian prospect was picked No. 1 overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers, capping off a year in which he scored 17.1 points per game for the Kansas Jayhawks.

After he was picked first, Wiggins seemed at a loss for words.

“A thousand thoughts are going through my head right now,” Wiggins said. “It’s a dream come true.”

But instead of talking about his place on an up-and-coming Cavaliers team, many people just wanted to talk about the crazy looking suit that Andrew Wiggins wore. The black tuxedo with white floral patterns caused a stir on Twitter, with many users cracking jokes about the fashion statement.

There is actually an interesting story behind the suit that Andrew Wiggins wore. It was created by tailor Waraire Boswell, who has also worked with LeBron James, Blake Griffin, and Chris Bosh in the past.

The designer said the white rose print is something usually reserved for European royalty.

“It’s super-exclusive, and we were told it was for when royals vacation or go to a country club,” Boswell told Women’s Wear Daily. “It’s a European bird’s-eye fabric. I guarantee no one will have anything even close to what he’s wearing.”

Any basketball fans who happen to follow Women’s Wear Daily on Twitter got a sneak preview of the suit. The magazine tweeted a picture of his preparations about two hours before the draft kicked off.

Andrew Wiggins seemed to like the attention about his suit. USA Today reporter Nicole Auerbach asked how many comments he’s gotten about it, to which Wiggins replied, with a smile: “A lot. That’s what I was going for.”
