Hero Police Officer Rescues Suicidal Woman From Train Tracks Seconds Before Impact

A police officer in Richmond Texas is being celebrated as a hero after rescuing a suicidal woman from the train tracks a mere moments before an oncoming locomotive struck her. Officer Ramon Morales sprang into action as he ran from his squad car within seconds of the track arms blocking the railroad crossing. Morales rushed toward the woman and pulled her to safety in front of his police cruiser.

The Richmond Police department posted the following on their Facebook Page:

“On Sunday, June 22, at approximately 1:00 AM, Officer R. Morales with the Richmond Police Department was flagged down in reference to a female sitting on the railroad tracks in town. Officer Morales responded and found a female on the tracks. As he approached the railroad crossing the warning lights and bell sounded for an approaching train. Without regard for his own safety Officer Morales went on the tracks and pulled the female off shortly before the train arrived at the location. Officer Morales then kept the female from standing back up and running back to the train. The female was later taken the hospital for an evaluation”

Morales showed no fear when he approached the tracks, undoubtedly aware of the proximity of the oncoming train. Despite attempts to reclaim her seat in the path of the oncoming train, Officer Morales dragged the woman to safety and held her in place until the train passed, keeping her out of danger. He can be seen in the video calling for help, obviously shaken by the heroic effort, but remaining calm and collected during the ordeal.

Sgt. L. Neinast, of the Richmond Police Department stated:

“As the video goes on, she asked him if he’s the one that pulled her off the tracks and he said, yes I am. And of course she said, why did you do that?”

Officer Morales was flagged down by residents that saw the woman on the tracks and shared their concern for her safety. Morales flipped on his flashing overhead lights and rushed to the scene. Once the lights were activated, his dash cam also turned on to record the entire incident.

In true police fashion, Morales denies the claim of heroism and has declined interviews. The former Marine was just doing his job, as any officer should. However, his Sergeant was quick to give him his due accolades:

“He did a great job and we’re proud of him,” Neinast told the station. “He’s a hero.”

The woman was taken to the hospital for evaluation. There are no updates on her condition at this time.
