‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ Posters Give A Detailed Look At The Heroes In A Half-Shell

Three new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles posters have been released, and they show some details we might not have noticed before. Michael Bay has been known for his attention to visual detail, even if his storytelling is often lacking.

Noticeably absent is Donatello, the one in the trailers who looks to be dressed up like one of the Ghostbusters. With a back mounted device and a pair of goggles, he appears to be on the verge of telling us he “ain’t afraid of no ghosts.”

Leonardo is known as the leader of the group, and it shows in the way he dresses. Embracing the warrior side of what he does, a NYC button on his shoulder tells is he’s either a Yankees fan or just really loves New York City. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles poster also shows Leonardo with what appear to be bones or something attached to wires running down his chest like body armor. It could be an individual fashion choice or evidence of a “rite of passage.”

Raphael is turned to the side, looking down at the city, and he seems to have a more simplistic look about him. A leather harness is strapped around his shell, a purely functional accessory. He also seems to have a pair of large pouches strapped behind his upper legs which seems oddly restrictive for a character trained in Ninjutsu fighting styles.

Michelangelo’s personality seems to radiate the most from his Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles poster. He appears to be the most careless, with duct tape holding his pants and knee pads together. He’s also wearing what appear to be sea shells around his neck, with a pair of sunglasses hanging from his chest harness. His shell harness appears to be a pair of seatbelts, with a buckle clearly visible and bearing the word “lift” on one end. Of all the Turtles, he is the only one smiling.

The TMNT posters appear to be showing us that Michael Bay is trying to retain the personalities of the heroes in a half shell. It’s too bad that the origins of Splinter and Shredder were basically rewritten, and the latter of the two looks like a Transformer.

The reason behind the absence of Donatello can be traced to a publicity tweet from Michael Bay veteran actress Megan Fox. She asked the world who their favorite turtle was, and the results showed the bo staff bearing turtle as the least favorite.
