‘Pretty Little Liar’s Tammin Sursok Posts Photo Of Breastfeeding – Will She Get The Backlash Graduation Mom Got?
Tammin Sursok made a statement to her followers, and to the world, when she posted a picture of herself breastfeeding her baby on Instagram: “Breastfeeding is a beautiful thing. Never something to be ashamed of. Bonding in the way God intended.”
The “Pretty Little Liars” star is mother to 8-month-old baby girl Phoenix, and the Daily Mail reports that Tammin is proud of the fact that she is breastfeeding.
It remains to be seen if Tammin Sursok will experience the backlash that many other moms have experience for breastfeeding or posting pictures of breastfeeding.
While no one would bat an eye if a beautiful lady poses in a string bikini, women are all too frequently shamed, ridiculed, and blasted for the simple act of nurturing their baby through breastfeeding. The vitriol that is sometimes expressed is unbelievable in a society that says that it is tolerant, tolerant of anything but THAT.
When 25-year-old Karlesha Thurman posted a picture of herself breastfeeding her baby at her graduation, The Inquisitr reported that the angry trolls went berserk, calling her names and making such a big deal out of it that her story became international news. Her baby was hungry. She fed him.
That is all.
It is a wonderful encouragement to breastfeeding mothers everywhere when celebrities support them by sharing unashamed breastfeeding pictures. Tammin Sursok’s action is sure to draw praise from that crowd. The Daily Telegraph says that “Actress Tammin Sursok has helped the cause for breastfeeding mothers.”
Sursok is “still” nursing an 8-month-old. Beautiful! The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends breastfeeding for at least a year, and the World Health Organization and Unicef recommend at least two years. Many mothers do not nurse that long, but moms need to be supported and given props for nursing as long as they can. ANY breastfeeding is better than none, and extended breastfeeding has great health benefits for both mother and baby.
Tammin and Phoenix are supported in their breastfeeding journey by Tammin’s husband Sean McEwen, himself an actor and producer.
