Foo Fighters Rocks The Crowd With Classic Covers At Firefly Festival [Videos]

On Friday, the Foo Fighters headlined the Firefly Music Festival in Dover, Delaware. It is their first performance for the summer, and they wowed the crowd of 80,000 with their old songs, as well as some classic covers.

At the start of the show, Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl told the crowd that they would play “until they tell us to shut the f**k up,” and that’s just what they did.

Foo Fighters opened the set by playing “This is a Call.” “I know this might sound crazy, but we’ve been a band for almost 20 years now. And we used to always start with this one, because this is the first one on that first record,” Dave told the audience.

The continued the set by playing their classic songs including “Monkey Wrench,” “Times Like These,” “My Hero,” and “Big Me.” Afterwards, Grohl said, “We’re gonna do something we’ve never done before. For the next 20 minutes, we’re a bar band called the Holy Sh**s that plays classic rock songs.”

Foo Fighters played covers of classic rock songs including Rolling Stones’ “I Miss You,” Alice Cooper’s “School’s Out,” Van Halen’s “Ain’t Talking’ ’bout Love,” and Queen’s “Under Pressure.”

Billboard reported that Dave announced that Foo Fighters will be releasing their album with “eight fu***ng bad-ass songs” that were recorded in eight different cities. The band did not play a song from the new album, but Grohl teased the crowd saying, “We’ll give ’em to you at some point.”

Foo Fighters performed 15 minutes past their scheduled end time, much to the delight of the audience. The ended their set by playing “Everlong,” which was accompanied by fireworks to bring their performance to a sparkling close.

Grohl, who has always been known as a gracious frontman said, “I’m the luckiest person in the world. I can’t wait to come back and play all the new sh** for you. It’s gonna be really fun.”

After 20 years, the Foo Fighters already released seven studio albums. And although they are considered one of the best rock bands today, they still manage to play with the same energy they had back when they first started making music together.

According to Rolling Stones, Foo Fighters’ next album is scheduled to hit stores in November. The bands’ documentary series entitled Sonic Highways will debut on HBO later this year. The documentary, which Dave describes as “a love letter to the history of American music,” chronicles the making of Foo Fighters’ eighth studio album.
