A draw would leave Algeria facing an uphill climb – though not necessarily an insurmountable one, especially if Russia loses. Algeria will face Russia in the third and final match of group play.

According to an AP report, Algerian center Rafik Halliche expressed optimism that Algeria could turn things around after a close loss to heavily favored Belgium:

“We still have two games to turn the situation to our advantage. We certainly shouldn’t give up in these circumstances.”

South Korea needs to keep pace with – or better yet, outpace – Russia. With the Russian team facing the favored Belgians, this is likely South Korea’s best chance to pull ahead and put themselves in a position to advance. South Korea will need to face Belgium in the final match of group play.

Expect this game to be a hard-fought, defensive game, with neither team giving up easy goals.

A Yahoo! Sports report quotes South Korean fullback Park Joo-ho saying this about the upcoming match with Algeria:

“I don’t think either team will have a lot of offensive chances. If we can score with the chances that we do get, we should have a good shot at winning.”

South Korean Coach Ton du Chatinier stressed the importance of playing a patient game against Algeria:

“When there’s a lot of space behind them, we’ll have a lot of opportunities to score. (Algeria is) also a counterattack team. They also wait, wait and wait, and it’s important for Korea that we don’t make stupid mistakes.”
