Azealia Banks Opens Up About Her Problems With Interscope

Azealia Banks is currently working on some new music, but fans may not hear any of it until she bids farewell to her record label.

If Interscope Records is a great place to release music, then nobody has the company’s back these days. Just months after Suge Knight slammed the label for the deal they offered Kendrick Lamar and Game, Banks shed some light on the tumultuous relationship she has with Interscope. In short: She seems to hate the label with a passion.

During her chat with Out, Azealia laid all of her emotions on the table. Although she didn’t offer any details about why she’s unhappy with the label, Banks said she’s excited about the idea of jumping ship. While she’s waiting to see what happens on that front, the rapper is trying to remain focused on her music.

Azealia explained to the publication:

“I can’t talk about what I’ve been writing about because I’m just keeping stuff until I’m off this label. I can’t really risk them getting excited about me again. I kind of want them to think that I’m dead. I haven’t been leaking any songs that could potentially be hits. I haven’t been releasing anything that could potentially be phenomenal.”

The rapper added:

“I haven’t been doing anything good because I don’t want these people to want me. It’s like a relationship with an ex-boyfriend, where you kind of do things to make him go away. Like when you don’t brush your teeth. I’m not going to brush my teeth because I don’t want you to think I’m attractive.”

Suge Knight would definitely appreciate Azealia Banks’ position on Interscope. The Inquisitr previously reported that the former Death Row Records CEO believes the label is more than a little stingy when it comes to giving their artists good deals. Knight recently shared his thoughts during a chat with Arsenio Hall.

He told the talk show host:

“If you look at Interscope, the two guys from Compton — Game, Kendrick Lamar — got two of the worst deals in the industry. What people don’t realize is Universal [Music Group] is the ship, then Aftermath get they cut, then G-Unit get they cut, then the guy who really have Game signed [takes his piece], then it came to Game… then it’s Kendrick Lamar.”

Are you surprised that Azealia Banks is having so much trouble with her record label? Who do you think the rapper should sign with after she jumps ship?
