Mayim Bialik And Her ‘Blossom’ Crew Wear The Years Well

Before she was foil to Jim Parsons on The Big Bang Theory, Mayim Bialik was kid sister to Joey Lawrence. In the early 90s, Bialik brought her own brand of personality to television screens for a five season run that is forever etched in the memories of viewers of Blossom.

Now, fans of Mayim and company get to relive those memories in real time. The Hub Network will begin rerunning Blossom in July.

To commemorate, the former cast mates reunited to record a series of promos this week. Bialik, Lawrence, and actors Michael Stoyanov and Jenna von Oy – who played Bialik’s recovering alcoholic older brother, and her best friend, respectively – posed for studio shots and a flattering selfie that Mayim shared on Twitter.

Remarkably, the passing of nearly two decades has done little to age the actors, which Mayim was quick to point out:

Since Blossom went off the air in 1995, Bialik has made good use of her time. She famously got a Ph.D. in neuroscience and became a mom. Those two events, extraordinary accomplishments they may be, actually led to her role on Big Bang Theory: “I had just gotten my PhD, and I had just had my second kid… And I just started going on auditions because I needed health insurance,” Mayim told Arsenio Hall in November.

Mayim Bialik is also a proponent of “attachment parenting” and, as previously reported by The Inquisitr, thinks home births are normal.

As for the career paths of her former Blossom co-stars, Metro reports Lawrence, Stoyonov and von Oy all have enviable performance credits from recent years. Lawrence is currently starring in a series with Melissa Joan Hart, Stoyonov has had roles in edgy projects such as Prison Break and The Dark Knight, while von Oy has launched a country music career.

Given Bialik’s acting and academic credentials, it would seem her role as Dr. Amy Farrah Fowler on Theory was a no-brainer. While that may have been true for the show’s producers, Bialik herself had never actually seen the show before her audition, and had little knowledge of future co-star Jim Parsons. To prep for her meeting, she Googled Parsons the night before.

Mayim and her Theory co-stars Parsons and Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting are nominated for Critic’s Choice awards this Thursday.
