Steve Martin Denies Rumors About ‘Father Of The Bride 3’ Role

Steve Martin has reportedly denied rumors that he’s accepted a role in the proposed Father of the Bride sequel.

Since the comedian starred in the first two installments of the beloved films, it’s not altogether surprising that folks thought Martin would return to the role once again. Despite what you may have read on certain film-oriented websites, Martin recently shot down reports that he’s signing on for another go-around.

Word of the sequel first popped up over at NikkiFinke.com. In addition to declaring that Steve Martin would reprise his role as George Banks, the website coughed up details about the pitch. Here’s a hint: It’s centered around gay marriage.

Check it out:

“The twist in this threequel is that Little Matty is now 29 and gay and getting married to a Navy SEAL’s son. Father of the bride George is ‘thunderstruck and speechless’ and has problems with the whole gay thing. So wife Nina kicks him out of the house, according to the pitch which Disney loved.”

While numerous websites were quick to pick up the story, there’s apparently a few problems with the report. For starters, Steve Martin flatly denied that he’s sign on for a role in Father of the Bride 3. The actor-musician also hasn’t seen a script for the sequel.

Martin had this to say on Twitter:

Although Martin denied reports that he’s accepted a role in the sequel, it wouldn’t shock this writer if Disney took another trip to this lucrative cinematic well. After all, digging up old properties is apparently all the rage these days. Dumber and Dumber To is set for release later this year, and word on the street suggests that Warner Bros. is assembling a sequel to Goonies. Tim Burton is also considering a follow-up to Beetlejuice.

Not surprisingly, there’s quite a bit of interest in another Father of the Bride sequel. Judging from the comments that have surfaced on Twitter, the idea is certainly appealing to more than a few micro-bloggers.

Are you disappointed that Steve Martin has denied rumors about accepting a role in Father of the Bride 3? Do you think he should play George Banks one more time?
