Paddington Bear Becomes A Hollywood Villain In Creepy Meme

Hold on to your hats because you’re about to see the iconic character Paddington Bear like you’ve never seen him before. Sure he still has the signature bucket hat we’re all accustomed to seeing him wear, but now Paddington Bear has become the victim of a terribly creepy internet meme that’s turning the bear with the blue duffle coat into a figure that could rival Stephen King’s It. For once it’s totally not the internet’s fault.

Earlier a still was released from an upcoming Paddington Bear film, and even without any alterations seeing an animated CGI version of Paddington Bear is pretty creepy all on its own. So creepy that in fact, Colin Firth, who was to be the voice for Paddington is no longer attached to the movie. Okay, so Firth dropped out of the film way before Paddington hit the internet, but we can understand his hesitance if he saw the initial storyboards for this childhood favorite turned creeper.

While outlets like Complex are more concerned about his overall “slimmed-down” look the film’s character, “at least somewhat resembles the book version.” Tell that to the Twitter users who have used the hashtag #CreepyPaddington to describe the reimagined character.

It only took a few moments of circulation before the internet had their way with creepy Paddington Bear, and it resulted in placing Paddington in classical horror films like The Shining, Silence of the Lambs, and The Exorcist. At least now he has a purpose aside from his November 28th movie.

Here’s some of our favorite #CreepyPaddington contributions:

At one point even Batman was signaled to help.

Sadly all good things must come to an end. It looks like #CreepyPaddington’s reign is over, we hope.
