Channing Tatum Says Developing Gambit’s Costume Will Be A Slow Process

Like it or not, Magic Mike alum Channing Tatum is starring in the standalone film centered around the X-Men hero known as Gambit.

As a huge fan of the character, this writer will refrain from thrusting his opinion into your face over the course of this article. While some people can’t wait to see what Tatum does with the role, others feel that the 22 Jump Street star just doesn’t fit. Either way, it seems as though 20th Century Fox is moving forward with Channing in the lead.

While promoting the aforementioned action-comedy, Channing Tatum opened up a bit about his love for Gambit. He also dropped a few hints about the character’s outfit, though it seems that producers haven’t worked out any specifics as of this writing.

Tatum told the folks at Screen Rant:

“He’s kind of really known for having this headpiece that you gotta figure out. It’s gonna be a slow figuring out of the design. You kind of have to slowly massage it into a world you believe and that is honest to what the actual property and what the history of the character was… People know and love this character so you have to be honest to what it was in the comics, and you also have to give them something they believe and that they’re not expecting. And so, it’s a really delicate line to walk on and we’re just going to take our time and figure it out.”

Even if the thought of Channing Tatum playing Gambit makes you want to punt a puppy into the sun, you have to admit that the guy definitely seems to adore the character. Prior to landing the role, Tatum admitted that bringing the superhero to life was definitely something he wanted to do. Out of all the X-Men character, Gambit is his favorite.

Channing explained:

“I met with Lauren Shuler Donner. And I would love it. Gambit is really the only X-Man I’ve ever loved. I mean I’ve loved them all, they’re all great, but I guess from being down south — my dad’s from Louisiana, I’m from Mississippi, Alabama, Florida… I just related to him.”

Channing Tatum definitely has Donner’s support on the project. The producer, who has tackled all the X-Men movies, believes the actor is “great for Gambit, and he’s a southerner too, he understands that world, and you know Gambit loves New Orleans.”
