WWE News: “Macho Man” Randy Savage To Be Inducted In 2015 WWE Hall Of Fame

In what can only be described as major news, the WWE seems to be getting very close to getting “Macho Man” Randy Savage (real name Randy Poffo) into the WWE Hall of Fame for the 2015 class rumored to be headlined by The Rock. The WWE has spoken on numerous occasions to the Poffo family, who obviously own the rights to the late Savage’s name and estate.

The problem WWE ran into was that they were, in fact, talking to Savage in 2011 about the Hall of Fame. In fact, they were able to get his permission to use him in a WWE video games, and he was even part of the set-up for one during this time. Sadly, it seemed almost immediately after all of this he passed away and WWE was unable to secure him to come into the Hall of Fame the following year. That meant that his brother, Lanny Poffo, would have to allow it.

The problem is that Lanny was also a former WWE Superstar, known as “The Genius” or “Leaping” Lanny Poffo. He said in interviews that despite the fact WWE wanted to induct Randy only, he felt that he and his father should be inducted with Randy. Meaning the Poffo Family would be inducted….and he claimed “it’s what Randy would have wanted.”

People forget that Randy Savage was actually a second generation wrestler. His father Angelo Poffo was a very good territorial wrestler and promoter who ran International Championship Wrestling. He was also part of WCW’s Hall of Fame, class of 1995. So Poffo was clearly a good person for the Hall, however he was never really part of WWE….so adding him wouldn’t make sense. It would also not make much sense to add Lanny who really is known best for being Randy’s brother. So Randy is really the only family member who belongs in the WWE Hall of Fame.

Now that Lanny owns the rights to the Poffo family, he can basically say yes or no and add his own stipulations to it. So WWE may have made the deal that the Poffo family will go in together….but that is uncertain.

WWE also decided to work on a Randy Savage DVD/Blue Ray that is set for release late this year. They have full cooperation of Lanny for it and he is part of the documentary, as well. This is one of the first times they had new material for him as they usually added old interviews with people or contracted legends/performers for the documentaries involving Savage. So, having Lanny is a big deal for the future of anything they do with Randy.

Clearly WWE wants to get Savage into the Hall of Fame, and now they are closer than ever before. If they get him on his own, I’d imagine they paid Lanny for the rights to use Savage. Money does make the world go ’round. We will have to see if WWE can negotiate well enough to get him. If WWE is feeling confident enough to talk about it with people, they obviously think it’s as close to a done deal as can be.
