Lana Del Rey Shares Her Definition Of Feminism

Lana Del Rey recently shared her personal definition of feminism with the masses.

Whenever musicians decide to delve into this arena, it always makes for interesting conversation. Katy Perry recently found herself the subject of ridicule when she coughed up a definition of feminism without properly researching the topic beforehand. We’ll bring you up to speed on that in just a minute.

First, let’s pay some attention to Lana Del Rey’s definition of feminism. During her recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, the singer addressed rumors that some of her tunes weren’t painting positive portraits of women. That’s when Lana decided to share her thoughts and feelings about the movement.

Lana Del Rey told the publication:

“For me, a true feminist is someone who is a woman who does exactly what she wants. If my choice is to, I don’t know, be with a lot of men, or if I enjoy a really physical relationship, I don’t think that’s necessarily being anti-feminist. For me the argument of feminism never really should have come into the picture. Because I don’t know too much about the history of feminism, and so I’m not really a relevant person to bring into the conversation. Everything I was writing was so autobiographical, it could really only be a personal analysis.”

But wait — that’s not the only thing Lana Del Rey had to say on the subject. During a recent chat with Fader, the “Video Games” singer admitted that the whole feminism thing isn’t very interesting as a whole. The next time you decide to chat up the songstress, expect her eyes to roll back into her skull if the topic happens to pop up.

“For me, the issue of feminism is just not an interesting concept. I’m more interested in, you know, SpaceX and Tesla, what’s going to happen with our intergalactic possibilities. Whenever people bring up feminism, I’m like, god. I’m just not really that interested,” she said during her conversation with the magazine.

Yikes. Chances are that’s not going to win her too many new female fans. Fortunately for Lana Del Rey, she’s in pretty good company these days. Katy Perry doesn’t seem too interested in feminism either, though she does consider herself a feminist. Confused? Let’s take a look at what the “Roar” singer had to say earlier this year.

“A feminist? Uh, yeah, actually. I used to not really understand what that word meant, and now that I do, it just means that I love myself as a female and I also love men,” she explained back in March.

Will Lana Del Rey’s recent comments prevent you from picking up a copy of her new album Ultraviolence?
