Tanith Belbin: Ice Dancer Engaged To Fellow Olympian Charlie White
Tanith Belbin and Charlie White make quite a pair, even if they happen to be rivals on the ice.
The Olympians, who have been dating for years, announced Tuesday that they are now engaged.
White announced the engagement on Instagram with a photo of the happy couple in Hawaii. In the picture, Tanith had her hand placed across Charlie’s chest, showing off her new engagement ring.
“Couldn’t ask for a more beautiful setting for the best time in our life! Hashtag she said yes!!!” he captioned the photo.
The engagement came a few weeks after White saw his run on Dancing With the Stars come to an end with a fifth place finish. Charlie shared some details about his relationship with Tanith Belbin at the time, saying that the two were moving in together.
“I’m very much looking forward to moving in,” he told Us Weekly after his DWTS elimination on May 12. “It’s by a river and I’m going to be walking with her and my dog alongside the river, taking a break—it’s been a crazy year, and it’s time to breathe!”
White indicated to fans that the proposal may have been a bit impromptu.
“I promised myself I wouldn’t do this. But I think Hawaii took that as a challenge ’cause dang! Look at that!” he added, with a snapshot of a rainbow appearing above the ocean.
Though Tanith Belbin was born in Canada, she moved to the United States when she was young and competes for the United States. She paired with Benjamin Agosto in 1998 and together they won an Olympic silver medal in 2006. The pair are also four-time World medalists, three-time Four Continents champions and five-time U.S. champions.
Charlie and Tanith got a big ‘congratulations’ from Charlie’s Olympic partner (and Dancing With the Stars competitor) Meryl Davis.
“Congrats to these two! Beautiful girl, beautiful. Good work @CharlieaWhite,” she wrote.
Tanith Belbin and Charlie White haven’t revealed any details yet about when they plan to marry, but might want to schedule the date around the next Olympics.
