Trey Songz Talks Bond With Chris Brown

Rap hit-maker Trey Songz is getting ready to release his sixth studio album called Trigga, which means that anything worth knowing about the rapper-actor is being divulged in a bevy of radio appearances to promote the upcoming album.

In a recent radio interview with The Breakfast Club, Songz had some fun promoting Trigga. During the interview, Trey spoke about a few subjects, but one that’s sure to earn some headlines is his thoughts on his colleague Chris Brown.

As some may know, Brown was just released from prison following a 108-day sentence after violating his probation, which resulted from a 2009 domestic assault on then girlfriend Rihanna. His violation happened in October when he was involved in an altercation with a photo bomber in Washington.

Of the singer, Trey Songz only had the kindest words to say about his pal. The rapper admitted that Chris Brown was there from the very beginning of his career and that the two were pretty close, sharing a strong bond due to their time out on the road together.

Apparently, the two are still very close because Songz admitted that he had heard from Brown after he was released from jail.

“I spoke to him this morning. He actually text me this morning. He’s out and on his way here. You know I didn’t speak to him to hear his voice but he’s out and he’s good.”

Of their interesting history, Trey said:

“Chris and I did our first tour together and I always looked at him as a younger brother and now we’re adults. He was so much younger than me when we first got in the game. He was 16 and I was 20. He came out on that tour and probably did like eight dates on like a 20-show run. I remember him just blowing up. Just seeing him go from this little energetic kid that loved everything about it to where he is now.”

Comparing their two careers, Songz said that while they did start out together in the business, they went on different paths, the older they became.

“The trajectory in my career was much slower than his. His was much more gradual. I was able to embrace and deal with things differently.”

Speaking of Chris’ recent troubles with the law, Trey Songz said that he needs a loyal companion in the music industry that will have his back, and according to Trey that’s what he is to Brown:

“I’ve been his homie and right now I feel like he needs somebody he knows that’s down for him and I’m down for you dawg. Like I said I want to see us all successful.”

Trey Songz album hits shelves on July 1, 2014.
