Tracy Morgan’s Chauffeur Says Star ‘Screamed For Help’ After Horrific Crash

As actor and comedian Tracy Morgan remains in the hospital (where he arrived in critical condition this weekend) after a horrific car crash, his driver has spoken out about the frightening incident.

News broke early Saturday that Tracy Morgan had been seriously injured in a late-night crash on the New Jersey Turnpike near Cranbury, and the star’s condition was reported to be very poor.

Later, we learned Morgan’s longtime collaborator James “Jimmy Mack” McNair had been killed in the major crash.

Now Tyrone Gale, driver of the limo in which Morgan and McNair traveled with several others, has explained the immediate and harrowing aftermath of the crash.

Gale says that when the limo collided with a truck and overturned, passengers in the back were initially trapped. In the moments following the accident, Gale told a local paper that he attempted to free Morgan and those seated with him despite the chaos that ensued.

He describes a difficult to remember scene:

“I climbed around and heard Tracy screaming for help. I climbed up on the body of the limo bus… but I couldn’t reach them… I just remember the impact.”

Gale continues, explaining that some passengers were injured so severely they could not be moved:

“We didn’t know which way was up, which way was down. I don’t know if we flipped several times or one time. I saw the condition of everybody, and I knew it would just make it worse if I tried to pull them up and out of the vehicle.”

Authorities are still piecing together what led up to the horrific crash, but the other vehicle involved — a Walmart truck — is believed to be potentially at fault for the deadly crash.

According to Fox News, a driver has been arrested following the accident and charged, and the site reports:

“A Walmart truck driver from Georgia was charged with death by auto and four counts of assault by auto. Authorities said 35-year-old Kevin Roper, of Jonesboro, apparently failed to slow for traffic ahead early Saturday in Cranbury Township and swerved at the last minute to avoid a crash.”

Comic Harris Stanton was in the limo at the time of the crash, but was not injured as badly as some of the other passengers.

After the incident, Stanton said of McNair’s death:

“I didn’t get hurt as bad as they did. I was lucky… It’s sad. It’s very sad.”

Tracy Morgan is expected to remain hospitalized for several weeks as he recovers from the serious injuries he sustained in the crash.
