Yahoo Announces Realignment Plan
Yahoo has announced a new organizational “realignment plan.”
As part of the plan, the company is creating a handful of new teams: an audience products division, responsible for product strategy and management; a U.S. marketing division, responsible for all American marketing plans; and an insights strategy team, responsible for overseeing data and analysis use within the company.
Yahoo is also planning some technological changes, such as the creation of a “world-class cloud computer and storage infrastructure” to encourage better communication between its product and engineering divisions.
Ultimately, the changes amount to a lot of internal shuffling and organizational tweaks to — as Yahoo says — “improve its products, technologies and execution.” And perhaps boost its shares, too.

I wonder if this Yahoo re-org was the CAUSE of the recent departures, or was it BECAUSE of the recent departures?

It's a good question. Personally, I'd suspect more the latter, though I'd think it was more than any single factor driving the decision. My guess is that the departures, combined with all the recent well-publicized struggles, made them realize something had to be done — both from a business and a public image perspective.
