Liam Payne Weighs In On The One Direction Weed Scandal

Liam Payne thinks some of his bandmates should grow up.

In case you haven’t heard, One Direction members Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson found themselves at the center of a “marijuana scandal” after video surfaced of the pair getting high. Fans were understandably shocked by the clip, especially since it shattered the group’s otherwise squeaky clean image.

Although smoking weed isn’t nearly as bad as, say, shooting heroin or snorting a huge line of cocaine, it’s still bad business when you’re peddling music to teenagers. One person who believes his buddies were in the wrong happens to be Liam Payne. According to the Latin Post, the singer apologized to those folks who were heartbroken by the footage.

Payne explained in a recent statement:

“I love my boys and maybe things have gone a little sideways I apologize for that. We are only in our 20’s we all do stupid things at this age. We all have a lot of growing up to do in an extreme circumstance I’m not making excuse but it’s fact we are gonna fall short somewhere.”

The singer continued:

“Hopefully we stand the test of time and get it right in the end I don’t take this for granted and I’m extremely grateful to be here doing this. Thank you to everyone who has stuck with us through this just know that we love you guys for it and it means the world.”

While Liam Payne doesn’t seem to think the band will crumble and sink into the musical sea as a direct result of the weed scandal, The Hot Hits reports that there’s some trouble brewing behind-the-scenes. Since this info arrives courtesy of an anonymous source, you shouldn’t lose any sleep over the matter just yet.

“At times, they’re hardly talking backstage. Liam, Harry and Niall are worried about losing fans – they’re also nervous the scandal might affect their success in America,” an insider reportedly told Closer magazine.

The source added:

“It’s Zayn and Louis against the others — Harry, Liam and Niall are furious. They had a dramatic meeting last week and Harry was the first to lash out, telling them they’d messed everything up. But Zayn turned it around on Harry and accused him of only being interested in himself. Poor Niall has been in tears — he’s worried this could be the end of the band.”

Since Liam Payne seems to think everything is okay in the One Direction world, it’s probably safe to trust the guy. Do you think the marijuana scandal could ruin the group?
