Uncharted movie is starting from scratch, now helmed by Neil Burger

Many Uncharted fans weren’t particularly pleased with the news of Nathan Drake’s casting in the upcoming Uncharted movie, nor were they very happy about the plot to the movie. Fortunately for that crowd, the movie’s reigns have been taken over by a new challenger: Neil Burger.

In an interview with Crave, Burger revealed that he was starting from scratch with the Uncharted movie, rather than picking up the screenplay that David O. Russell and his team penned. When asking if Burger would be keeping any of Russell’s screenplay, he said:

“No, I haven’t seen his screenplay on it. Mainly we’re beginning from scratch and going back to the videogame. Because there’s a lot of cool stuff, actually, from the videogame, if you know it…”

In other good news, now that the casting is open once again, fan-favorite Nathan Fillion has another shot at picking up the role of Drake. When asked if he was aware of all the clamor to get Fillion in Drake’s shoes, he had this to say:

I’ve seen a little bit of that, yes. That was brought to my attention. So, you know, I think he’s a good actor. I think there’s a lot of really good actors who don’t even look like [Nathan Drake] who could play it! Where we are right now is that we’re literally starting from scratch on the screenplay, and I think that once we finish it, then we’ll go to actors and see who’s available and who’s right for the parts. Whenever that happens.
