‘Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel’ Trailer Tells A Story Of Handsome Jack [Video]

The new Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel trailer tells us the story behind series villain Handsome Jack.

Even though in this game you’re playing the role of a bad guy, it seems the series villain is still a problem. In the gameplay trailer dropped this past week, it was explained that Jack isn’t yet the CEO of the organization, but he still runs the facility you’ve been thrown out of. He’s just not a nice guy.

Nice or not, Handsome Jack narrates this new trailer with a sense of humor and poetry. In a sort of Hollywood celebrity style, he begins by talking through the intro credits about how “time is money,” and calms down a little when the actual gameplay footage starts rolling.

This is certainly a different take on a Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel trailer, though it does give us that familiar self-aware humor the game has always had. Jack gives us a setup, ever so eloquent, telling us about a monument of sorts which bears some words about him. His apparent ego shines through when he gets to the point of describing himself, driving home the idea that he is handsome, and not giving you a chance to ignore it.

Eventually Jack runs into a part about him being dead, and laughs it off, saying he’s going for a new ending.

As Handsome Jack narrates, we get some rich cell-shaded visuals showing off the fact that the older generation consoles can still look good. Shadows sweep the landscape, the planet peers out through what appear to be rock formations and man-made structures, and the villain’s statue stands ever so proud against the planet backdrop. Jack describes the statue in seriously egotistical detail as we get a view of lava flows glowing in spite of a dead, yet colorful, landscape.

One of the last scenes gives us a view of Jack’s mask with its attachments lying against the rocks.

The Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel trailer tells us that the game is coming to the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3, and PC. Will you be among the masses who pre-order this game?
