Russell Wilson: Tears Of Joy Over His Sister Anna Making USA U17 Basketball Team [Video]

The only person that can make Russell Wilson cry is apparently his little sister, Anna Wilson. As a 5’11” (maybe) quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks, Russell Wilson has made a name for himself as one of the toughest quarterbacks in the NFL. Wilson, who is currently going through a divorce, announced through Twitter on Monday that he is still a softy for Anna.

After two seasons in the NFL with the Seattle Seahawks, Russell Wilson has won a Super Bowl and leads one of the most efficient offenses in the league. But Russell is not the only formidable athlete in the Wilson family. His sister Anna has been making a name for herself at Collegiate High School in Richmond, Virginia. Anna is a ball hawk on defense, and has incredible court vision at the point guard position. Her high school highlight video reveals a young guard who is capable of breaking down defenders and scoring at will.

A winner like her brother Russell, Anna Wilson led the Collegiate Cougars to a 17-9 record last season. Anna led the team in assists with 4.9 a game as a sophomore and was also second in scoring at 13 points per game. In her interview with USA Basketball, Anna shared what it was like to hear her name called after the U17 trials.

“Honestly, I was really, really nervous. I didn’t get much sleep last night, but when they called my name I was just very happy that it happened. I’m very excited.”

Also like big brother Russell Wilson, Anna knows that being a part of a team is about more than individual accomplishments. She will be joined with other great basketball players from around the country, although she may be the most high profile thanks to her famous brother. She already considers herself a leader who is willing to do whatever it takes to help her team win. When asked about her strengths, Anna Wilson said, “[I can bring] a different aspect of leadership and just being able to fill in my role within the team. We want to win gold, that’s our main goal. I can’t wait to just be a part of the team.”

Last year, the U16 USA women’s basketball team brought home the gold. Many of those players are on this year’s team, a team in which Anna Wilson did not make. Now, she is ready to contribute and hopefully lead the team back to the gold at the FIBA World Championship in the Czech Republic from June 28 to July 6.

There will probably be many more tears of joy shed by Russell Wilson as he watches his little sister Anna grow up in international basketball.
