Daredevil Loses and Gains New Show Runner

Marvel’s Daredevil Netflix series recently made headlines because the show has lost its original show runner Drew Goddard. Goddard already wrote the first two episodes of Daredevil and he was also set to executive produce and direct the series as well.

Although Goddard is also working with Sony’s Spider-Man villain spin-off The Sinister Six. Goddard hasn’t completely left production. He will reportedly remain as executive producer for Daredevil. In a Twitter response to the news Goddard said, “Deeply honored to be part of it.”

However, Marvel has already found its show runner replacement for Daredevil and its Steven S. DeKnight. DeKnight has written for such projects such as Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Angel, and collaborated with Josh Whedon’s Dollhouse. This was all before he became executive producer and show runner on Starz Spartacus. Spartacus was a highly rated TV show, and drew in a huge audience, and because of that Daredevil should be interesting to watch.

Daredevil is about a comic book character named Matt Murdock, a New York City resident who gains powers after being struck by a radioactive substance. The Daredevil series is actually one of five live-action series headed to the streaming service. In addition to Daredevil, Netflix is producing Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist. These four series will eventually converge into one series titled The Defenders.

Marvel is definitely doing whatever they can to expand their universe through movies, television, and now Netflix. Marvel has films planned all the way till 2028. The most recent movie that has come out for Marvel is Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which received great reviews and had a major impact on Marvel’s cinematic universe. The next Marvel film is Guardians of The Galaxy, which is new to the franchise. After that is Avengers 2: Age of Ultron.

The next film after Avengers 2 is Ant-Man. The movie has recently had the same issue as Daredevil after the project lost its director Edgar Wright. Marvel has not yet announced the new director of Ant-Man, but they say the film’s release date will not change.

Marvel’s television series have just started out with Agents of Shield, which has just been renewed for season 2 and now they’re bringing a new show called Agent Carter. Agent Carter is based from Captain America: The First Avenger. Marvel also has a handful of animated series that have their own mini-universe. This includes Ultimate Spider-Man, Avengers Assemble, and Hulk: Agents of Smash.

Now Netflix is the next step with Marvel expanding their cinematic universe, starting with Daredevil.
