The Binding of Isaac coming in August for Steam

Edmund McMillen, one half of Team Meat (Super Meat Boy), announced on his blog that his solo project, The Binding of Isaac is due out on Steam this August.

McMillen went on in the post to describe The Binding of Isaac as a “roguelike shooter based on the dungeon structure of Zelda (NES),” with a control scheme akin to Smash TV and Robotron. The game currently features 6 dungeons, 6 bosses and 36 enemy types spanning 3 chapters in a randomly generated, semi-RPG-like world

Rather than going with the standard RPG mainstay of “level up character, get stronger”, The Binding of Isaac will focus on collecting items. In each of the game’s levels, there will be treasure chests, bosses to fight, shops to find and secret locations to explore to pick up some new loot to upgrade your character. Most all of the items stack and, as you build up more items, your character will become more and more buff, both in power and appearance.

There’s no word just yet on how much the game will cost, but McMillen promises that it won’t “put much of a strain on your wallets.”
