Leonardo DiCaprio Books Ticket To Space, Would You Pay $1.5 Million To Join Him?

Leonardo DiCaprio is a charitable kind of fella as well as being one of the biggest and best looking stars in Hollywood. It happens to be that the word “stars” is fitting here as DiCaprio booked himself a ticket to space and auctioned off another for $1.5 million.

The Wolf Of Wall Street star attended the star-studded amfAR’s 21st Cinema Against AIDS Gala at the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in France where he auctioned off a ticket for someone to join him in space in 2015.

The gala was to raise money for AIDS research, and by all accounts this year’s dinner held at the Hotel Du-Cap-Eden-Roc was one of the organizations most successful events of the year.

As well as the Leonardo DiCaprio space voyage, a 1967 painting of Marilyn Monroe by Andy Warhol sold for just under $500,000, and a 1968 painting by Pablo Picasso fetched $520,000.

But by far the biggest event of the night was a work by artist Damien Hirst, a 10,000-year-old fossil coated in steel, which sold for a massive $15 million. As well as the not small amounts of cash being slung around at the event, a good amount of Hollywood’s finest were on hand.

Among the stars were Jessica Chastain, Sharon Stone, Heidi Klum, Rosario Dawson, Kellan Lutz, and Justin Bieber. This is just a taste of the type of celebrities who attended.

By the end of the auspicious fund-raising event, the amfAR Cinema Against AIDS Gala took a staggering $38 million, which is significantly more than any amounts raised at previous events.

But do you think the space voyage with Leonardo DiCaprio was worth a cool $1.5 million? And what about the Damien Hirst Picture work for $15 million? There were obviously some massive players at the event but do the things sold warrant the amount spent?
