We know what you’re thinking, and we’ll refrain from moving forward before issuing the standard spoiler warning. If you’re the sort of gamer who likes to undercover everything organically over the course of the experience, then you’ll want to skip this article altogether. Otherwise we’re going to ruin some of your fun.

However, those who’d like to know about some of the hidden features tucked away inside Wolfenstein: The New Order should definitely keep reading. Since this writer remembers when the first game was originally released via shareware, the latest installment’s nod to franchise’s history is definitely appreciated.

According to the folks at IGN, players who venture deep inside Wolfenstein: The New Order will eventually stumble across a level from iD Software’s groundbreaking first-person shooter Wolfenstein 3D. For those of us who were gaming way back in 1992, the level’s inclusion is a pleasant surprise.

Here’s how Gamesradar explains the Wolfenstein easter egg.

“But jumping off from talk of its heady blend of eras, there’s a damnably fun Easter egg tucked away that ties all of that stuff together brilliantly. A little later in the game, a dream sequence accessed through the rebel base area gives way to a playable recreation of the original Wolfenstein 3D, lovingly — and bizarrely — rendered by a slick do-over of the ’92 game’s graphics infused with its brand new sequel’s gunplay.”

If you haven’t purchased The New Order yet or just want to check things out before you get to that stage of the game, then have a good look at the video embedded below. The combination of old-school and new-school graphics is certainly a little peculiar, but it looks pretty fun nonetheless.

Since this writer hasn’t picked up Wolfenstein: The New Order as of this writing, he’s living vicariously through blogs and social media. Another recent easter egg unearthed by eager-eyed gamers features something straight out of Fallout 3. Once again, avoid moving forward if you don’t want any of these interesting surprises ruined.

Wolfenstein: The New Order is available now for PC, PlayStation 3, Playstation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
