Noor Hussein: Brooklyn Man Beats Wife To Death For Serving Vegetarian Dinner

Noor Hussein is on trial for allegedly beating his wife to death for serving a vegetarian meal, and the Pakistani native is actually trying to justify his actions by saying it was his right to “discipline” his woman.

The 75-year-old Brooklyn resident is accused of killing his wife in 2011 after she served him lentils for dinner instead of the goat he wanted her to make. Prosecutors say he then pummeled his wife until she was a “bloody mess.”

“Defendant asked [his wife] to cook goat and [his wife] said she made something else,” court papers published in the New York Post noted. “The conversation got louder and his wife disrespected defendant by cursing at defendant and saying motherf***** and that the defendant took a wooden stick and hit her with it on her arm and mouth.”

But the most shocking part of the case may be the defense Noor Hussein has mounted at his trial. His lawyers claim that Hussein believed he had a right to discipline his wife and that wife beating was part of his culture in Pakistan. They argue that the man did not intend to take the beating so far and did not mean to kill her.

“He comes from a culture where he thinks this is appropriate conduct, where he can hit his wife,” defense attorney Julie Clark said in her opening statements. “He culturally believed he had the right to hit his wife and discipline his wife.”

Prosecutors say Noor Hussein beat his wife with a stick used to stir laundry in a washtub, then tried to clean up the bloody scene the followed. He then called his son for help.

“I killed her. Hurry up and come over,” Hussein told his son, according to prosecutors.

The prosecution plans to call witnesses who lived in the same building as the couple and will testify to the ongoing abuse the wife suffered.

At his trial this week, Hussein sat expressionless while pictures of the crime scene were shown and police described the horrific scene.

“She had blood on her face and around the bedding,” testified NYPD crime scene Det. Michael DeVivo. “There was also blood on the wall next to the bed.”

Noor Hussein could face life in prison if convicted of killing his wife over cooking the vegetarian meal.
