Katharine McPhee Files For Divorce Following Cheating Scandal
Katharine McPhee has officially split from husband Nick Cokas following her recent scandal where she was seen kissing her married Smash director, Michael Morris. According to US Weekly, McPhee’s representative has confirmed that the former American Idol finalist has filed for divorce.
In a recent report by The Inquisitr, Katharine McPhee was caught by photographers kissing Michael Morris, director of Smash, who is married to actress Mary McCormack of The West Wing and In Plain Sight. The report continued on to say that the incident happened after McPhee and husband Cokas has been estranged for nine months, “but some say that McPhee’s relationship with Morris had been going on for quite a while.”
The separation had been kept under wraps for the most part, but reports claim that McPhee was embarrassed about being caught with her indiscretion and the two have been keeping things quiet ever since. “She is SO embarrassed she was caught,” a source told US Weekly. “She should have known better!”
The scandal took quite a toll on not only McPhee’s relationship, but also Morris’ relationship with wife Mary. According to The Inquisitr, Morris was reportedly kicked out of the home he shared with his wife and three kids. After the kissing photos were released, rumors of a divorce between the two started surfacing, though seem to have been squashed as time has passed and the couple began really working on their relationship. Reports state that Morris was allowed to move back into the family home a few months after the kissing scandal.
Katharine McPhee and Nick Cokas reportedly tried to work on their relation following the kissing scandal. The two gave it the good old college try it would seem. They had been spotted out and about multiple times, and they seemed happy, but things just didn’t work out in the long run. McPhee’s representative told PEOPLE the following in a statement:
“After six years of marriage, and having been separated for the past year, Katharine McPhee has filed for a dissolution of marriage from Nick Cokas. The two have an amicable relationship and will remain friends. They ask that people respect their privacy during this time.”
A source close to Katharine McPhee told PEOPLE that despite rumors, there were no outside parties that ultimately played any role in the couple’s split. “It was just time. They’d grown apart and weren’t right for each other anymore.”
