Jennifer Lawrence: Rape Joke Just One Of Many Odd Quotes

Jennifer Lawrence’s rape joke may have some people blowing a gasket, but if you have ever looked at a collection of her quotes, you will quickly see this new one is about the norm.

In a related report by The Inquisitr, one time when an interview with Jennifer Lawrence began, she started the show with: “Your tape recorder is pointed at my vagina.” And the interview just got more interesting from there.

The newest story has Lawrence getting way too excited when she ran into Gravity director Alfonso Cuaron during the recent Cannes Film Festival. She reportedly ran up to him and grabbed his shoulders while saying, “I broke out my rape scream for you!” She then screamed loudly directly into his face.

This rape joke did not exactly sit too well with some people. For example, Maitri Mehta, writing for Bustle, says, “It might seem like a joke to Lawrence, but rape is never an acceptable topic to joke about — especially for a star in a young adult franchise that so many young girls look up to.” Alexis Rhiannon of Crushable seemed to think it was a Donald Sterling type situation where she did not intend anyone to ever hear about it:

“By her blase use of the terminology, it seems likely that she’s been lucky enough never to be in a situation necessitating that type of scream, or else I hope she wouldn’t throw it around so casually. I’m not suggesting that Jennifer intended to be flippant about rape or assault, just that she was.”

But making such jokes tends to be an automatic reaction for Lawrence. For example, this is how Jennifer explained a car accident to passengers in the vehicle she accidentally rear-ended:

“I’m sorry that I hit your family. I thought I saw Honey Boo Boo.”

She’s made jokes about sleeping with bow, arrow, and mace, puking and Miley Cyrus, called herself a dancing monkey, and even dropped the f-bomb on people who’ve suggested she diet. Of course, when she’s not joking sometimes she’ll drop quotes that practically everyone, minus former Hannah Montana, can agree with:

“It is a part of the entertainment industry that sells. Sex sells, and for some disgusting reason young sex sells even more. For some people, that’s how they feel best, that’s how they feel sexy.”
