“Lost” Bornean Rainbow Toad Rediscovered [Photo]

The Borneo Rainbow Toad was last seen in 1924 by European explorers and now the toad has turned up once again, spotted by scientists who were investigating the mountains of Bornea and then snapping the first colorful photo of the toad.
Also known as the Sambas Stream Toad the creature was feared to be extinct and sat on the list of the “Top 10 Most Wanted Lost Frogs.”
Not only did researchers find one of the toads, they managed in a night search to capture photos of three toads living in trees.
Researchers had to use illustrations of the toads for their searches as no picture proof previously existed. The process of hunting down the toad took nearly a year to complete with the expedition for the lost toad beginning in August 2010.
The toad was discovered in the higher regions of the Penrissen mountain range however the exact location was not revealed for fear that exotic animal poachers might attempt to hunt the toads and sell them on the illegal exotic animals market.
