‘Mortal Kombat 10’ Once Again Teased, Or Is Ed Boon Hinting At Something Else?

Mortal Kombat 10 could indeed be on the way and ready to be announced at E3 2013. Of course with the latest tweets from creator Ed Boon, it could also mean another Mortal Kombat crossover.

We can only hope that NetherRealm isn’t about to make yet another MK vs DC Universe title now that Injustice: Gods Among Us is getting a sequel and Mortal Kombat hasn’t had a sequel in three years. The first time that happened, it resulted in the downfall of Midway, because the inclusion of the DC universe meant the game had to be toned down (no blood and gore, an essential trademark in Mortal Kombat).

It was indeed a Mortal Kombat game being hinted at, according to a new tweet image from Ed Boon. The picture was actually a car logo, but the logo read “MKX,” and he asked Twitter what the X could mean. This tells us that the MK part was obvious and Mortal Kombat is indeed about to go another round, but the question of what that letter means could also indicate something other than Mortal Kombat 10.

You might recall two games released recently called Street Fighter X Tekken and Tekken X Street Fighter. On those games, the X stood for “crossover” or “versus,” and this pointed a fan on Twitter to reply that the car logo meant Mortal Kombat X Street Fighter is coming.

Could the fighting game crossover of a lifetime actually be about to happen? Mortal Kombat X Street Fighter, if done right, could be the holy grail of fighting games for veterans of the genre. We might finally get to see who would win if Ryu and Sub-Zero ended up in a fight, or even Fei Long against Liu Kang (the Bruce Lee clones). At least we’d finally know without having to use the customizable fighting game app called MUGEN.

Was Ed Boon hinting at Mortal Kombat 10 or a Mortal Kombat crossover? We will probably find out during E3 2013.
