Miranda Kerr on Childbirth: “I Thought I Was Going to Die”

Victoria’s Secret model Miranda Kerr has opened up about being a new mom, pressure to regain her pre-baby body and how scary she found giving birth to be.

Kerr and husband Orlando Bloom became parents to son Flynn in January, and Kerr recently spoke to InStyle Australia about balancing work and family life. The new mom says:

“We have a bath together every night. I am first a wife and a mother. When I work, it needs to be the best decision for us as a family.”

The Angel said that while her quick return to top modeling form was well received, it wasn’t a priority for her:

“Flynn is a big baby…and I thought to myself, ‘I have so much more that I want to do aside from modeling… I can live with my body not being in shape if I have a healthy son. It’s worth it.”

Kerr expounds on the joys of parenthood and says of raising Flynn:

“Flynn’s birth is the best thing that has happened to me. He is the light that illuminates my life… of course, Orlando is also the light. I love both of them very much.”

And though Kerr loves motherhood, she says that delivering her son was, in parts, terrifying:

“I actually thought I was going to die at one point and left my body… I was looking down on myself, the pain was so intense…. I kept thinking, ‘How do women do this?’ But if other women have done this, I can do it too. I was determined.”

Kerr says that she and Bloom may relocate to Australia to raise Flynn.
