WWE News: Sheamus Set To Replace Batista In Evolution

There seems to be a lot of rumors going around about WWE Superstar Sheamus as of late. WWE recently had Dean Ambrose drop his United States Championship to the Celtic Warrior after a hard fought 30 man Battle Royal. Ambrose had held the title for nearly a year.

There had been rumors that Sheamus was set to go heel upon his return to the WWE months ago, but WWE held off on those plans. One idea thrown around was to have Sheamus remain a babyface character and be pushed to the moon as a top tier face in 2014. Now however, those plans may have taken a detour.

The idea WWE is potentially set to go with soon is having Sheamus replace Batista in Evolution. Batista is set to leave the WWE after WWE’s Payback PPV for a few months, potentially until Summerslam. He is leaving to promote his new movie coming out. Since it is Guardians of the Galaxy, a Marvel movie, he will be busy with several talk shows and comic-cons; even E3 could see Batista involved.

The movie is set to come out in August, so Batista will be back around that time and will obviously promote it through the WWE as well. So the fact that he is leaving means that Evolution needs to have a new big man for at least 2-3 months if they plan to still rival The Shield trio.

The idea is to have Batista come back and still believe he is part of The Evolution faction. This would do one of two things for the group. Either Triple H will have the two wrestle at Summerslam to decide the remaining spot OR have Batista simply take out Sheamus to take his spot back by force in the group. Either plan could set up a Sheamus face turn.

The common creative idea would be that this would help The Shield as they would be able to see a fracture in the Evolution faction that would help their rivalry in a major way and end it after WWE’s Battleground PPV. As we know by now, the WWE is planning to keep the Evolution/Shield rivalry going for a while.

The first step to adding Sheamus to the group has already taken place with him beating Ambrose for the United States Championship. Now, we will potentially see Sheamus added to the group within a few weeks. One plan that has been going around is having Dean Ambrose exercise his rematch clause at WWE’s Payback PPV. He would go on to beat Sheamus, angering him into wanting some sort of retribution and thus, leading him to join Evolution. This may always change however.

Sheamus does have a good resume as far as joining the group goes. He is a multi-time World Champion in WWE and has been around for years now. He is also in his 30s, near the same age as all three members of the group. So it makes sense for him to join and it could happen sooner than we think.

Batista will have to be written off at least by the Payback PPV, so we know another powerhouse must be added and Sheamus more than qualifies. Will WWE keep to this idea? We don’t know. WWE’s plans can and often times do change on a dime, so the WWE could add someone else instead or kill the group off for a few months.
