James Spader Signs On For Role At “The Office”

As previously reported actor James Spader (Boston Legal) will replace Kathy Bate’s as CEO of Dunder Mifflin’s parent company on the hit show The Office.

During Michael Scott’s (Steve Carell) final season Spader took on the role of an applicant for Scott’s role and “will reprise his role as Robert California, this über-salesman that has a power to convince and manipulate, like a high-class weirdo Jedi warrior” according to exec producer (and cast member) Paul Lieberstein.

Lieberstein continues:

“He’ll have been hired over the summer as the new manager, but within hours, got himself promoted. Within days, he took over the company,” and “James has an energy that is completely his own, and The Officehas no tools for dealing with this guy. We’re thrilled he’s joining our cast.”

As far as Steve Carell’s role, reports are pointing to a “hiring within” type of scenario playing out with various cast members requesting the role.
