Corey Feldman And Sean Astin Sound Off On ‘Goonies’ Sequel

When the Goonies sequel was announced, we were kind of surprised. As it turns out, we weren’t the only ones surprised by this out-of-left-field announcement. One original Goonies star was left a little puzzled. The Huffington Post has put a video up of the stars, specifically Corey Feldman and Sean Astin, hashing out the logistics that’s surrounding the news of the Goonies sequel.

We knew that the director Richard Donner was on board thanks to his announcement via TMZ, but now we have other tidbits to share in regards to the sequel.

Astin has revealed that original scribe Chris Columbus will be back, but probably not as a screenwriter. According to Astin, the production behind the Goonies sequel are “actively trying to secure a writer based on an outline that they feel really confident about.”

Sean explained the process behind finding the perfect writer to pen the Goonies sequel:

“I happen to know that they are actively trying to secure a writer based on an outline that they feel really confident about. When Steven [Spielberg], who ultimately is the decision-maker on this, when he has felt the magic and he and [The Goonies director Richard Donner] are in agreement, which I believe will happen, then it will be a thing.”

Feldman also joined in on the discussion about the Goonies sequel while Astin was in the Huff Post offices promoting a new film.

The best part of the interview is that Corey Feldman appears to be very confused that this is all happening, and even asked Astin what production was up to. Feldman was told by Richard Donner that the Goonies sequel was a go, but as far as details go that’s all he knows. Feldman explained how it all went down:

“I called you when Dick told me but then he makes this announcement, haphazardly to TMZ and gets the entire world excited and talking about it, and then does nothing. Then a month passes and then he makes another announcement that Steven [Spielberg] is involved, and then he does nothing. He kind of threw us under the bus on that.”

Even though Feldman is a little confused by the process of Donner’s announcement, Sean Astin seems like he has a little more of an idea of what’s going on, saying that this is 29 years in the making.

Right now there’s no word on when the production is going to come together on the Goonies sequel, but Astin insists that it will all happen when Steven Spielberg “feels the magic.”
