American Idol Results: Final Three Set After Thursday’s Elimination

The American Idol results are in, and the final three are headed back to their hometowns with dreams of winning it all.

Thursday night’s show pared down the finalists from four to three, with an elimination that wasn’t terribly surprising.

[WARNING: Spoilers ahead]

Jessica Meuse was sent home, leaving a final three of Caleb Johnson, Jena Irene, and Alex Preston.

Meuse had been considered on the fence for some time, and had arguably the weakest performances on Wednesday.

This week’s American Idol results followed a shocking surprise last week, in which the final five decided against saving one of their own from elimination. It was also the first show in the aftermath of frontrunner Caleb Johnson’s slam against fans who piked his songs. After apologizing, Johnson tried to win back fans with Bon Jovi’s “You Give Love a Bad Name.”

After a second performance that featured Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Travelin’ Band,” judge Jennifer Lopez admitted that Johnson appeared to be cruising toward an American Idol win.

“You killed it again, you’re gonna be tough to beat,” she said.

But as Caleb Johnson was getting better, Jessica Meuse appeared to be falling apart. She performed a rocked-out version of Idol winner Kelly Clarkson’s “Since You Been Gone” that judges said didn’t seem to fit her style too well.

Jessica Meuse is still looking for that performance that will show that she’s got a spark behind those thousand-yard-stare eyes. Her wobbly, rocked-up take on original “Idol” Kelly Clarkson’s “Since You Been Gone” had kick, but her vocals were a bit shouty and off-key.

“I’m glad you have two more songs,” Harry Connick Jr. added.

But Meuse failed to stand out on her next two songs, Pink’s “So What” and Lady Gaga’s “You & I.”

With the American Idol results from Thursday, many believe that Jena Irene as a good chance to take home the title. She is seen as a potential candidate to knock Caleb from his frontrunner status, rocking a performance of Pat Benatar’s rocking “Heartbreaker.”

After the American Idol results, the show is now barreling toward its finale with just four singers left. The final night is now less than two weeks away, with the show’s two-part finale airing Tuesday, May 20 and Wednesday, May 21.
