Jamie Foxx Takes Lead Role in ‘Django Unchained’

Oscar winning actor Jamie Foxx has been confirmed to take on the lead role in Quentin Tarantino’s forthcoming western film, Django Unchained.

In the movie, which is penned to hit theaters on Christmas 2012, Foxx will play the role of Django, a freed American slave who enlists the help of a German bounty hunter in order to save his wife from a sadistic plantation owner named Calvin Candie.

Other stars reportedly playing in the movie are Leonardo DiCaprio, who will play the evil plantation owner, Cristoph Waltz (Inglorious Basterds), taking on the bounty hunter’s role, and Samuel L. Jackson, who will play the role of Stephen, Candie’s slave and right-hand man.

When asked what he was most looking forward to about the project, Foxx, 43, told CNN:

“I think, just to be able to work with Quentin Tarantino and Samuel L Jackson, Leonardo DiCaprio, and to be able to tell a story that needs to be told.” He continued, “If you’re a fan of Inglourious Basterds, I mean, you know… it’s just amazing. It should be amazing.”

Filming on Django Unchained is likely to get underway within the next few months. According to Contact Music, Tarantino handed in the final draft of the script to The Weinstein Company on 26th April 2011.
