Beastie Boys’ ‘Girls’ Gets Remake From Sizzy Rocket [Video]

The Beastie Boys song “Girls” has been given a more female empowering remake from musician Sizzy Rocket. The original song was written allegedly from a satirical point of view, though some on YouTube debate this and say that the Jewish rappers were simply covering themselves after being attacked for such misogynistic lyrics.

The original words that start the song were:

“Girls, all I really want is girls … And in the morning it’s girls … Cause in the evening it’s girls. I like the way that they walk … And it’s chill to hear them talk … And I can always make them smile … From White Castle to the Nile”

Sizzy Rocket has confessed to listening to the song while she was in the shower, and felt the need to change the words so they meant the opposite of what the song was saying. Instead of a guy talking about his conquests and disappointments with women in his search for … you know, Sizzy rewrote the Beastie Boys‘ “Girls” to talk about men and their often unrealistic expectations.

A majority of rap in those days was rather misogynistic, and it’s interesting to hear someone turn it around and make something the women might want to hear.

Sizzy’s rewording of the lyrics above became:

“Girls, all they really want is girls … They like the way we walk, but they don’t want to hear us talk. We think we’re all supposed to smile … from White Castle to the Nile.”

While the musical tone is radically different, the imagery seems to be poking fun at the source material. Sizzy Rocket herself may just help start a wave of more female-friendly remakes of popular older songs.

Other artists have done similar with older songs as well, like Marilyn Manson’s take on “Sweet Dreams,” which takes a disco-like dance song and gives it a nightmarish edge to compliment what the lyrics are actually saying.

What do you think of Sizzy Rocket’s remake of the Beastie Boys’ “Girls”?
