‘Captain America 2’ Is The Most Popular Movie On Torrent Sites

Captain America 2 is still in theaters across the globe, but that isn’t stopping people from illegally downloading the flick from a number of popular torrent sites.

Apparently quality doesn’t matter much to some folks these days. The copies of The Winter Soldier floating around online are apparently from handheld cameras, which means the picture quality and sound aren’t exactly razor-sharp. However, this isn’t stopping people from snatching the flick by the thousands.

According to ComicBook.com, the acclaimed Captain America sequel is currently the most pirated movie online. Of course, that’s probably going to change once copies of director Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 arrive online. This writer is assuming that they haven’t already started making the rounds.

For the week of April 28, Captain America 2 ruled the illegal roost among those who satisfy their cinematic cravings through illegal channels. The chart over at Torrent Freak shows that The Winter Soldier managed to beat Vampire Academy, Son of Batman, and the sci-fi flick The Machine. While the other movies were reportedly sourced from DVDs and Blu-rays, copies of the Captain America follow-up originated from cams.

The Torrent Freak chart only looks at downloads that come from torrent sites. This doesn’t include those who are snatching Captain America 2 through digital storage lockers. In other words, there’s really no telling how many illegal copies of the film are floating around websites at the moment.

Although these folks are essentially snatching money out of Disney and Marvel Studio’s wallet, this hasn’t stopped the sequel from generating large stacks of cash at the box office. According to Box Office Mojo, the movie has earned approximately $651 million worldwide. That’s definitely a figure for producers and executives to get excited about.

Unfortunate for Cap, he’s slowly starting to slip down the top 10 at the North American box office. Early reports suggest that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will end up making the most money over the weekend, followed by the raunchy romantic comedy The Other Woman and the faith-based drama Heaven is for Real. Captain America 2 and Rio 2 will likely round out the top five.

If you’re deeply concerned about snagging a copy of The Winter Soldier, websites such as Amazon are already offering pre-orders for the digital edition of the sequel. Unfortunately, we don’t have a proper release date to share with everyone as of this writing.
