Eric Holder Cancels Police Academy Graduation Speech After Protests Erupt

Eric Holder canceled a police academy graduation speech after crowds of Oklahoma residents converged upon the facility in protest. Those assembled felt it was inappropriate for the US Attorney General to lecture the young cadets about enforcing the law.

Oklahoma State Representative Mike Turner, who is running for Congress as a Republican, had this to say about Eric Holder speaking at the police academy graduation ceremony:

“A lot of people just felt that it was very inappropriate for this man, with his track record, to speak to law enforcement officers that demand and expect to be backed up by the government working on behalf of the citizens, not against the citizens.”

Representative Turner also stated that Attorney General Holder “flouted the law” when it comes to the enforcement of Second Amendment rights, on illegal immigration issues, and in the Fast and Furious gunrunning scandal that involved the death of US Border Control agent Brian Terry. In 2012, Congress held Eric Holder in contempt for “impeding investigations into Fast and Furious.”

Attorney General Holder decided to back out of giving a speech to the Oklahoma police academy class shortly before the official ceremony was slated to take place. During an interview with The Washington Times, a representative for the highest ranking law enforcement agent in the county said the cancelation was due to a scheduling matter. “The attorney general had been looking forward to addressing the cadets and regrets he cannot attend in person. He extends his heartfelt congratulations to the cadets and their families,” Brian Fallon said. Representative Turner deemed the official response by the spokesman as a “comical and convenient excuse.”

According to local media reports, there were at least 100 Oklahoma residents at the police academy protesting Eric Holder’s planned presence and speech. There was also a significant police presence ordered around the facility. “There was no shortage of law enforcement officers that also felt very uncomfortable with the idea of him speaking,” Representative Turner added.

Former Colorado Congressman Tom Tancredo also attended the Eric Holder protest. Turner stated hopes that the protest of the attorney general in Oklahoma City prompts similar gathers against Holder around the nation. “I figured that he’d get more pushback or more feedback in other places he goes. Why does Oklahoma have to be the only place that make a show of it, that gives it a go of calling him out,” Turner pondered.
