Lana Del Rey’s ‘West Coast’ Is Officiallly A Hit In The US

Lana Del Rey recently dropped “West Coast” on the masses, the first single from her upcoming album Ultraviolence.

There’s definitely a lot of buzz surrounding the singer’s next studio album, which explains why people were so quick to jump on Lana Del Rey’s latest tune. In fact, “West Coast” is the second-biggest single of her career thus far.

According to Digital Spy, Del Rey’s song debuted at number 17 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The singer moved approximately 110,000 copies of the track in a single week, thanks in part to its popularity on internet streaming services.

The Hot 100 chart isn’t the only place Lana Del Rey scored a hit over the past seven days. Yahoo! Music points out that “West Coast” landed at number six on Billboard Hot Digital Songs chart. As the word spreads about the singer’s latest musical endeavor, chances are the single could slowly make its way up the ladder.

Although Lana Del Rey dropped the first single on the masses last week, she’s yet to unveil the official music video for the track as of this writing. However, Gigwise points out that the clip should arrive very son. Considering this article will hit the virtual press on Friday (April 25), there’s a strong possibility the official video could drop later today.

Unfortunately for Lana Del Rey fans living in the UK, the new single won’t officially arrive in their neck of the woods until May 18. Although there are certainly ways to obtain the track ahead of its release — options we won’t discuss at-length on The Inquisitr — fans who want the singer to enjoy a healthy run on the UK charts will want to purchase an official copy of the tune when it finally drops next month.

Of course, this isn’t the only song Lana Del Rey has on the market these days. The songstress also contributed a memorable track to the soundtrack for Angelina Jolie’s Maleficent. According to Variety, the singer’s dark rendition of the song “Once Upon a Dream” is building substantial buzz for the upcoming flick.

Mitchell Leib, the head of Disney’s music division, was understandably thrilled with how Lana Del Rey’s song turned out.

“Lana has a very unique vocal presence. It’s deep, articulate, patient… She’s not a faint little pop artist — and we do a lot of that at Disney, to be honest. We were trying to bring some gravity and artistry to this. It just felt like great casting,” he explained.
