Is Lil Wayne’s Drug Glorification Out Of Control?

One look at Lil Wayne is enough to convince your average man on the street that here is a dude who has dabbled in drugs quite extensively, but has Lil Wayne’s chemical glorification gone on for too long?

The people behind the prescription cough syrup which is an active ingredient in Lil Wayne’s beloved Sizzurp, also known as ‘purple drank,’ certainly think so.

Lil Wayne, who last year suffered seizures after overdosing on codeine is a massive fan of Sizzurp, as is Soulja Boy. Allegedly, upcoming gangsta rapper and Lil Wayne prodigy, Justin Bieber, is also a fan of the hard stuff.

Yet in the future both Lil Wayne, Soulja Boy and Bieber will be forced to get their codeine fixes elsewhere, because Actavis, the speciality pharmaceutical company responsible for the promethazine codeine syrup which puts the kick Lil Wayne craves so badly into Sizzurp, have seized production.

That’s right Lil Wayne. All the ‘purple drank’ has been drunk. The potent brew of hard candy, sugary soft drinks, and of course, prescription cough syrup, will now be a tough cake to bake because the main ingredient in Lil Wayne’s favorite glass of something nice is no longer on the shelves.

Actavis issued an unusual statement to HipHollywood which looks likely to break Lil Wayne’s heart and read : “Recently, one of Actavis’ products has gained significant attention in the media and elsewhere for its illegal recreational abuse. This attention has glamorized the unlawful and dangerous use of the product, which is contrary to its approved indication. This attention may place consumers at risk by minimizing the dangers of its misuse and abuse.”

Take note Lil Wayne. The statement no doubt continued to send shivers up Lil Wayne’s spine with the words, ” Given these significant concerns, Actavis has made the bold and unprecedented decision to cease all production and sales of its Promethazine Codeine product. ”

In Rich as F*ck, Lil Wayne famously raps: ” And I got Xanax, Percocet, Promethazine with codeine.” Now that production has ceased, will Lil Wayne change the words to: “And now I got Jack?”

Actavis’ cough syrup was always a prescription only drug and could fetch up to $800 on the black market, but with the syrup rivers running dry will Lil Wayne go cold turkey, or will Lil Wayne fly high on the wings of another chemical compound?

Perhaps Lil Wayne, who once wrote Me and My Drank about the drug, will wonder how his glamorization of the unlawful and dangerous use of a product has led to it’s eventual extinction. Way to go Lil Wayne.

One thing’s for sure. The next time you’ve got a terrible cough and there’s no reliable medicine available to fix it. Blame Lil Wayne.
