Sara Kapfer And Cuba Gooding Jr. Announce Split After 20 Years Of Marriage
Sara Kapfer and Cuba Golding Jr., who have been married for 20 years, announced to the public this week that they are splitting up. According to reports, the divorce papers for a legal separation were filed by Kapfer on Tuesday.
TMZ.com reported that Kapfer wants joint legal and physical custody of their three children Spencer, Mason, and Piper, with discussions about child support being deferred to a later date.
The couple, who were high school sweethearts, got married in 1994 and just last year Cuba gushed on The View about his happy marriage, although he did mention that he and Sara Kapfer were finding it increasingly difficult to spend time together:
When you do films, you’re away from the family, but I can still fly them in or fly home to see them, so… my wife and I… have this rule – never go more than three or four weeks without seeing each other. But I knew this commitment meant that I would be in New York City for a long time; I’m here possibly through September, so it’s a bit of a pull on that to keep the household together. But she allowed me to be indulgent for obvious reasons… This is a once in a lifetime opportunity.
That comment right there already got the media’s juices flowing as rumors began circulating that Cuba may be “prepping” news sources for some upcoming news of a separation. That definitely seemed to be the case in this instance.
Despite the split, Cuba only ever had praise and compliments for his wife Sara. He told The View at the time: “I got a wonderful lady that knows how to run the household even when I’m not there. (And) we’re just blessed with wonderful kids. Like I always say Its been five women [in one] I was with,” he shared.
Cuba continued to speak in the most sterling terms about his wife adding: “The high-school girl, then the college girl, the newlywed and the mother… she has been changing to this other woman that I have to introduce myself to every few years. And thank god I’ve fallen in love with every one.”
