Former WWE Wrestler Diamond Dallas Page Talks Being Set Up By Nancy Grace

Let’s be honest, the fact that Nancy Grace still has a job with CNN is remarkable. Now I’m not one to blast someone in the world of journalism for simply doing a job and me disagreeing with the way they do it. There comes a time however, when enough is enough. Yet Nancy Grace didn’t know where to cross the line when it came to the WWE. Former WWE Wrestler turned fitness guru Diamond Dallas Page or DDP to his fans, talks about being blindsided by Grace when he appeared on her show a short while back.

DDP was on the show because Grace and CNN asked him to appear on a show regarding the death of the Ultimate Warrior, someone DDP had known a bit. He was stunned when Grace went totally off of what she told him, and he had this to say about the before and after of it all:

“First of all, I wanted to leave. Oh my god, this woman was so nice to me when I walked in there. Once she started hitting me with that deal, I got scared. I go ‘Oh my god, she set me up, so should I get up and walk away? How is that going to make the business look?’ I breathed, I focused on breathing.

The only thing I could think of at that time was that WWE has the best wellness program, better than the NBA, NFL, MLB, so I think that is fighting for the company. I thought about firing back at her (Nancy Grace), but it was a really weird situation. I can’t put that b—h over. I can’t talk about her anymore, I want to strangle her. The last thing I want to be is in that position. The way it was told to me is that I saw four questions. I said ‘I don’t know about this’ and Nancy Grace said ‘No, it’s gonna be a feel good piece.’ When I walked in there, she was so sweet to me. She totally set me up.”

DDP was seemingly uncomfortable by the way he reacted to it all when Grace called upon him. He handled it as best he could it seems though. He was right in what he said too. WWE’s Wellness Policy is VERY strict. Talent cannot even as much as take a decongestant without it getting cleared by a doctor first.

Grace was attacking wrestling, and specifically WWE. She was saying that rumors of Warrior’s death was that he died due to steroids and pain killers. It was as if she was spreading the rumors herself, because really, no one had claimed such before her and her staff.

Then she did the unthinkable, and listed every wrestler who passed away, linking them all to steroids and pain killers as the cause. DDP had no clue about that he says. He said:

“I never saw that! That totally blindsided me. I will never do that b—h’s show again, I can guarantee you that!”

WWE has already contacted current and former talent, telling them that if they want to remain associated with WWE they cannot do Nancy Grace’s show.

Nancy’s list of wrestlers included people such as Owen Hart, who died from an accident in the late 90’s…obviously not steroids or pain killers. Many others on the list were not linked to them for cause of death either.

Warrior admitted to the use of steroids and was not shy about telling people he did use them at one point. However, it was found in his autopsy that he passed away due to a heart disease. Heart diseases can happen in people who have no link to steroids or pain killers. So it pretty much proved Warrior did not die from steroids or pain killers as that could not be proven. Unlike with Eddie Guerrero where the use in his past hurt his heart, Warrior’s heart disease was something he was living with for some time and not technically linked.

So Grace was wrong in what she said by trying to loop a wrestler who died to past issues, many of which the NFL has also had. Oh, but we cannot talk about that as then we’d have football players mad, right?

DDP was not to blame for anything of course, as he didn’t do the show with the intention to hurt the WWE product or insult Warrior or his family. He did it because he was told it would be tasteful and maybe something that would help people understand Warrior. Rather it was an attack on the industry and something that was horrible in thought. You don’t even have to be a wrestling fan to respect a man’s life and not spread rumors about something you have no proof to go off of.

As a journalist, you only go so far. Obviously Nancy Grace went too far when talking about the WWE. Of course WWE has bounced back with comments of their own and of course telling their talent to not associate with her…maybe even all of CNN due to her actions. We shall see how Grace decides to handle that. It’ll probably be in a yelling, over-produced tone with little facts to back up her point, you know, a normal show for her.
